-The highest of low art , the lowest of high art-

EXEMPTORY EXEMPTIONS Presents

a Jimmy O’Fool Production:

Astra, Bill, & Stella in “Roy's Barbershop Quartet : A Small-Town Love Quadrangle”

A Sonnet Cycle

Astra loves Bill...
Bill loves Stella...
Stella loves Astra...
and Roy...
Who knows what he’s up to?

I of XII

Bill came on by the barbershop today,
round about ten-thirty or eleven,
when Astra came in with somethin' to say
about this new guy she'd met named Kevin.
She said she felt like she was in Heaven.
Told how he's strong, and sweet, and really cute,
and how she'd see him that night, at seven.
Then she said he ain't like Bill, who's a brute,
who tells bad jokes, and has buddies who toot.
Her feelings for Bill were all in the past.
Bill told her then that the past is all moot.
He wished her luck, that her new love would last.
I tell you right then, she swore with a yell,
kicked at Bill's shin and said "Go to hell!"
